  1. Stethoscope. Your first "real nurse" purchase.
  2. Brain sheets (a stack). Your lifeline for time management.
  3. Clipboard or folding report holder. Somewhere to write that isn't your palm.
  4. Pocket drug or lab reference (or an approved app). For quick checks between rooms.
  5. Penlight. Small, cheap and always needed.
  6. Bandage scissors. For dressings and tape.
  7. Three pens. One for you, one for your preceptor, one to lose.
  8. Compression socks. Day one teaches you how much walking a shift involves.
  9. Water bottle. Easy to forget when you're nervous.
  10. Real lunch plus backup snacks. You might get 30 minutes, or you might get 10.
  11. Phone charger. For your schedule app, your reference app and texting your cohort.
  12. Small notebook of "things I learned today." Future-you will love it.
